FAQ - XML Toolkit

Web Development using XML:

XML Description:

The XML Toolkit for iSeries (licensed program 5733-XT1) is a standalone product that provides the latest in XML parser technology. The XML Toolkit provides two parsers sourced from the Apache Software Foundations' Xerces-C Open Source project of which IBM is a key contributor. One version is designed for applications written in C++ and the other version for applications written using the iSeries procedural languages: ILE COBOL, ILE RPG, and ILE C. These are validating parsers, compliant with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) XML standards.

As new XML parsers become available from the Apache Software Foundation, they will be provided as new, separately installable options on the XML Toolkit for iSeries. Just as you can have multiple Java JDK versions installed on your iSeries system, you can also have multiple versions of XML parsers installed. This will allow you to install and investigate the use of new parser functions, while still running your existing XML applications.
